I am just going to rant:
I am really upset by the emerging and spreading commercialization and sexualization of yoga. I know in my own power, there is nothing I can do to change what is happening in society aside from maintaining my own sense of center and promoting awareness.
- Yoga is not an exercise, it is a practice of dedication and mindfulness.
- Progress in yoga is not indicated by how your body looks.
- It does not involve a comparison of your practice to another’s.
- Strength from yoga comes from inside, not by how toned you may become.
A Note: Your happiness and satisfaction with yourself and your body will not come from seeking and attaining more. But instead, appreciating what you are given, taking care of all aspects, and loving your body wholly.
Society has a tendency to make us want to break our body apart and appreciate only pieces of it. It wants to separate body and mind and make us vulnerable to unrealistic messages about our image. You cannot just “love your legs,” or “love your face,” instead, you must learn to love all parts equally in different ways to maintain self-harmony and confidence.
